What’s wrong with what we eat
Posted: June 5, 2008 Filed under: Vegetarian | Tags: diet, Health, meat, vegan, Vegetarian 2 Comments »We have an overwhelming idea from our society that poultry and dairy products are essential to our health. But quite the opposite, we don’t need animal products or white bread or coke to function as a human being!!! It’s actually the PLANTS through animals that make people healthy!!!
Green house gases produced by animals and the processing of animal products account for 1/15 of the total green house gases, even more than transportation!
In the highly developed western society these days, many people grew up not eating much fresh food.
Between 1920 and 2000, the world population, the world population doubled, meat consumption increased FIVEFOLD! Freaking fivefold people! There’s a serious problem of overproduction and overconsumption of meat and junk food.

Vegetarian: Day 5
Posted: June 3, 2008 Filed under: Vegetarian | Tags: cereal, experiment, vegan, Vegetarian Leave a comment »Today i got up feeling crap, because i only got 5 hours of sleep and i can’t sleep any longer tho i wanted, cuz i got to give a presentation at 9am. I was actually half an hour late for my lecture, but somehow managed to squeeze some time forBreakfast, it’s really predictable given my tight schedule! ok here’s basically what i had for today…
Breakfast:
Cereal:
a combination of Linseeds, wheat bran straw, wheat flakes, oats, soy flakes, corn flakes, fuits and nuts. As usual, I had it with Vitasoy
Nutrition: 11.8g protein
5.6g fat
58.8g carbohydrates
6.8g dietary fibre
280mg sodium
and of course some other nutritions but not as significant
Then off i went. As the day progressed i felt better and better, until after i finished my last class for the day at 1pm. Hungry! So i walked backed home to have Lunch!
Lunch:
A serve of Hokkien noodle, with capsicum, corns, peas and weird as it sounds, tomato! Wasn’t particularly tasty cuz of the tomato
Then i felt really tired again and slept for the whole afternoon *pig* But felt great after i got up! had the same for dinner again. after 1.5 hours i weight myself…
Weight:
45.0 KG!
My bad didn’t weigh myself on the first day i go on vegetarian diet, but i’m only 157cm, and before this i normally weigh at least 47 KG. I can feel some of my weight gone as the jeans that were very tight for me last week feels a bit loose today. no joke. What a good “side effect” of vego meals for girls
Ok from today onwards i’ll weigh myself everyday and take notes of my energy level. Today i wasn’t particularly energetic, it’s very likely due to the lack of sleep.
Oh saw a supposedly funny computer joke:
Two strings walk into a bar. The first one says, “Bartender! Bartender! I want a drink!”
The second one says, “Bartender! Bartender! I want a drink too! blaaaaaaaaah Eeeeeeeek yaaaaaaak oooooooh.”
The first one says, “Please excuse my friend. He isn’t null terminated.”
from Sarah Ford‘s blog.
But i don’t really get it!!:( can anyone point it out to me…
Until tomorrow …

Vegetarian: Day 3
Posted: June 2, 2008 Filed under: Vegetarian | Tags: vegetarian vegan weekend Leave a comment »Image via Wikipedia
Actually yesterday 1 June was my day three, due to school assessments i’m putting it off till today:P
So what did i have….. oh i went to bed really late the night before and got up at 12ish at noon, this is my normal sleeping hours on the weekends. Then lunch – just some cereal with soy milk, and off i went to do some school work ( supposedly). In the afternoon i felt energetic as well, although after 1.5 hours or so i started to feel a bit sleepy, maybe it’s due to the change of sleeping hour on the weekend. But after a while the tiredness wared off. For dinner i only had some rice noodle with Choy Sum again, which kept me going all night.
It’s amazing i only had some cereal and a simeple dinner, and that kept me energetic all day
But i didn’t go around at all, so the reason why i didn’t feel tired could be because of that. Still got a lot to learn about diet balance as a vego tho. The experiment goes on…

Experimenting Vego: Day 2
Posted: June 1, 2008 Filed under: Vegetarian | Tags: vegan vegetarian diet steve pavlina Leave a comment »Image via Wikipedia
After reading an inspirational article Why Vegan? in Steve Pavlina‘s blog ( Check here if you don’t already know: Personal development for smart people), I decided to go Vegetarian!! For much the same reason as Steve’s, the initiative is not because of the whole animal talk, just for a healthier physical and mental body.
So i got up, took a shower and got myself brunch at 12ish- Soba cooked with tomato and carot. Green&red, hmmm a wired combination but actually tasted really nice. Then i went to school at 1pm to do some work. Throughout the afternoon i didn’t get sleepy once. Starting to feel a bit hungry at around 5pm, but after a while the feeling wared off and i was fine again.
Dinner 6.30pm, rice noodle with boiled Choy Sum. Got me running till 12 am.
I felt so energetic throughout the day, and i could think more clearly. I’m not sure if it’s really the vegetarian diet, or the 10 hours of sleep i got from last night. Or is it me indicating to myself that “yo, im vego so i’m more energetic!” Let’s wait and see in the following days.

[Drama] MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST| 西游记
Posted: May 10, 2008 Filed under: Drama | Tags: China, Gorillaz, Jamie Hewlett, Manchester International Festival, Monkey: Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, Traditional Chinese character Leave a comment »
The ancient Chinese legend Journey to the West (西游记), or more well-known as Money in the western countries is now in opera ! Combining both versions of the English translation, it’s titled Monkey: Journey to the West. It’s a monumental project because of the fictional nature of the story, which involves more than 100 characters with supernatural capabilities, and exotic scenes from the Mountain of the Flower where the Monkey was through to the Paradise where Tripitak and his disciples were finally given the Holy Buddhist Scriptures, called Sutras.
So here is how the drama came about:
MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST was first staged June 28, 2007 in the UK at the inaugural Manchester International Festival, whose director Alex Poots suggested that world-renowned theatre, opera and film director Shi-Zheng enlist GORILLAZ co-creators Albarn and Hewlett to provide unique, modern musical and visual interpretations of the themes and characters of this most beloved work of Chinese folklore.
The result is a new opera for the 21st century based on an ancient Chinese legend reworked as a dazzling spectacle involving nearly 40 Chinese circus acrobats, martial artists and singers from China with an orchestra of Western and traditional Chinese instruments. Developed in Beijing, Paris, Berlin and London the show has had sell-out runs in Manchester and Paris.
The animation by Gorillaz’s Jamie Hewlett is definitely refreshing. It captures the essence of the characters and gives them an exotic look. Take a look at the TV version of the story made in 1982 in China:

Can you you match them with characters in the top photo? If not here’s some help
