Stressed with School?

I stressed myself out yesterday when it occurred to me there’re three essays due in 3 weeks which I totally haven’t started yet, mean while there are exams, daily homework, school work that I left behind on, and PART TIME JOB! All of a sudden I felt my heartbeat going really fast, my face was feeling hot and my head pounded and I couldn’t remember anything I’d read. Noticing my own abnormality, I immediately messaged my boyfriend for help, my hands were shaking!

Obviously, getting stressed doesn’t make the three essays, exams etc go away. On the contrary getting too stressed like this affect my concentration and study! A little bit of stress can be a great motivtor, but this is just too much. I started eating whatever that was available in the fridge to distract myself. BAD! but what else do people do to relax from getting too stressed? Here are a few.

1.smoking
2.eating
3.consuming alcohol
4.playing games
5.taking stresstabs/anti-depressants
6.sleeping
7.deep breathing
8.meditating
9. or, when you can’t take it, bang your head on the door ( follow the instruction on the left). Joking!

The list goes on. Some of the items above are recommended by all pscyhologists, such as deep breathing and meditating. But be real, look around, how many of us really do that when we are suffering from enormous stress? I haven’t checked research paper for data on how people reduce stress, but by actual life experience, most of us take up smoking or eat more than normal to reduce stress!! Because when we’re stressed, WE DON’ T CARE! Being stressed affect our rational thought, adrenaline is released in our body and that’s the chemical that plays the central role in short-term stress reaction which… mainly repondes for the fast heartbeat or some other crazy stuff that we want to do!

So the stressors are the tons of school work that i managed to pile up. To cure the syptoms the only good way of course, is to remove the stressors, AKA kill all the assignments as soon as possible in this situation. But practically a lot of people deal with it by ignoring the stressors. This passive response will only make us more stressful later when the time comes. hmmmm

Oh one of the contributor to stress is actually trying to be perfect!! Arhh, that’s me!!! Sometimes I’d rather not do anything at all if I knew I’ll just do a crap job under a limited amount of time, but what needs to be dealt with still needs to be done. So by being a passive perfectionist I’ve managed to stressed myself out, and I didn’t even know! baga. So one lesson here is, just try your best!
