Juice Feast?

Recently I heard of this thing called :Juice Feast, from Steve Pavlina‘s personal development website.  And he’s doing this 92-day experiment just drinking fruit & veg mixes, using recipes from the Juicefeasting website.

It seems a little bit crazy when i first read it. Steve describes his experience as a “withdrawal” from solid food, and of course along comes a lot of difficulties like addicts would have, in this case he’s an “addict” for solid food as everyone of us is. He constantly craves for solid food even when he’s not hungry, being affected physically and mentally. He’s been going through mood swings and he’s energy level switches a lot. Especially in the first two weeks. Now that it’s just reached two full weeks the symptoms have relieved a lot. I can only imagine how hard it is to resist the strong intention of your body to eat “food”!!! But there must be some great outcome as well. Let’s wait and see.

Maybe I’ll do this at some point in my life. But my only concern is:  what if when you’re working long hours or traveling? I haven’t really looked into if there are people that actually drink through their lives, although it seems viable for a matter of a few months, but when it comes to traveling, and if you have a job that requires you to be out and about for the whole day, how are you supposed to make yourself such healthy drinks?

Becoming vego: late intro

Here’s actually a late intro to my blog.

I was reading Steve Pavlina‘s  personal development for smart people website one day, and came across this idea from him that he found vegetarian diet keeps you more energetic and makes it easier for you to control your concentration level. And beneficial results were found with his wife when she went on vegetarian diet. Neither of them did it due to the animal concern like most vegetarians did. And after a few years he even switched from being a vegetarian to being a vegan. This really inspires me. I wonder if there will be any changes in my life – energy level after I go on vegetarian diet. So here I am, setting up this blog to document my experiment :)

Maybe some day my not so significant blog page can inspire some other health concerned people as well. That’s my new found goal.

Vegetarian & Weight Loss!

Feet on a scale

Image via Wikipedia

It’s assumed that being vegetarian will have benefits for weight loss, and research does show that! For example, Research has shown people following a typical vegetarian diet consume, on average, around 500 fewer calories daily than their meat-eating counterparts. Interestingly, the research showed that they actually ate more food than non-vegetarians.

The theory behind weight loss is that vegetarians’ diets are comprised mainly of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are starchy, fiber-rich foods, and are naturally low in fat – every 3,500 calories cut equals one pound lost.

But, preparation method also effects weight loss. Foods that are boiled, steamed, sauteed contain less fat than if fried, deep fried and that involves a lot of dressing.

No wonder …. that’s why I’m on the way of losing but on the contrary gaining way! Cuz I tend to eat a lot than i did when i was non-vegetarian, I always stir fried stuff and eat late! ahh cautions ladies!!

Vegetarian: Day 8

Stir frying (爆 bào) in a wok

Weight

Weight as of today at 8:58am is … … 45.2 KG

Arh! I gained 1.1 KG as compared with when i just started being a vegetarian. why…..

Breakfast

As you can expect, breakfast was cereal with soy milk. To add a bit of flavor to my mouth I had a banana afterwards.

Lunch

I made myself stir fried Hokkien noodle with beans, carrots and capsicum. Just to make it weird, I added some tomato seeing there was one more tomato left in the fridge. Result was a disaster, it tasted sort of like expired food >.<

But at least it’s nutritious! GAH!

Dinner

Dinner was basically the same as lunch as I obviously made a lot at lunch.

One thing that keeps you energetic all day, i found, is having meals at a small amount each time, and eat something small every 2 hours. If you stuff yourself up too much at one time, then your body will function in working out the stomach, leaving you fatigue and hard to concentrate. So yeh, have a small amount of food each time you eat!:)

Raw Food Diet ?

Fresh Vegetables

Image via Wikipedia

Today i read as i was reading some articles online I came across this raw food diet concept. Raw food diet, as the name suggests, is food that is eaten raw, or uncooked!!! or what they call “living food”. Theoretically, raw food diet is really suppose to help you lose weight, and maintain a very healthy diet for you.

Here are some blogs that discusses about raw food diet:
Raw good tips

Is raw food more nutritious?

This artical talks about the origin of raw food diet, and argues that eating food uncooked is more nutritious because since it’s uncooked, there will be less Nutrition loss that generally happens in the process of cooking food.hmmmm maybe?

I was a bit concerned about the taste of the food, how disgusting would that be !? But ….. BUT

You can solve it by using other ways of preparing food such as using a juice blender !! Check this out for more detail.

The volume of water consumption related to livestock is shocking!!!

As of the data from 2000-01, agriculture takes up 67% of water consumption across all industries in Australia. That is 16,660 GL!!!

Within the agriculture sector, animal and animal by-products account for a shocking amount:

    • embodied water fed to pigs and poultry in feed might be estimated in the region of 20 GL and 10 GL respectively !!!

this is just a small example, for more check this website for details:

Weight

45kg! same old same old…..

Breakfast

same old same old ….yes, that’s right…. it’s cereal + soy milk!
Cereal is the best.
I’m feeling like a corn-fed chicken! LOL

Lunch

A bit naughty today, I had something super Aussie style ….
Fish & Chips!

It was quite huge and oily, and I finished all of it!

In the afternoon I got tired really quickly and found myself hard to concentrate again, can it be the oil level with the fish and chips i had for lunch? hmmm

Dinner

Green tea soba + spinach + mushroom.

I was fairly fairly tired after dinner still. About an hour after dinner my energy started to come back to me a bit. and slowly i felt that i could concentrated better!

Snack

This is possibly the healthiest snacks ever – an orange and a pear 3 hours after dinner! :)

One week anniversary of being a vegetarian! weeee

Vegetarian: Day 6

Just a quick note, June 4 was actually my day 6:P

Weight

First thing in the morning, i weighed myself!44.80KG. Considering it’s before breakfast, i would say my weight has been pretty steady since i went on vegetarian diet.

Breakfast
know it may sound boring, but my breakfast has exclusively been cereal with soy milk!

Lunch
Had lunch in one of the Asian food outlet in school. Delicious!
Steamed brocoli + carrot + baby corn;
Steamed fish with pepper
Fried rice noodle with sesame.

After lunch i felt a bit sleepy for a while, but when the dizziness wared out I felt really pumped up and energetic!

Dinner
I made myself a nice rice noodle with spinach and mushroom for dinner.

For days I’ve been eating really “tasteless” dinners, but i figured at night you don’t need that many fancy food as you’ll just do some work and go to bed. Why carry such a weight to sleep huh?

Naughty thing I did…
Just before dinner, i quickly snapped a small kitkat. It was sitting in my cupboard and i was so tempted by it! It should be okay since I’m not a vegan yet… or is it not ok :(
